About Open Studios

The Dandenong Ranges Open Studios program has been presented by Burrinja for 22 years. This iconic cultural event started as a little idea to share the incredible creativity of the hills with the wider community and has grown into an annual must-see experience with over 8000 visits each year.

The open weekend is held in autumn each year, showcasing the picturesque landscape of the Dandenong Ranges in full autumnal bloom. There is nothing dreamier than driving through the rolling hills and steeply weathered gullies, surrounded by thick temperate rainforest. As you cruise through the tall mountain ash trees, dense ferny undergrowth and quaint mountainside villages, your journey offers you a unique glimpse into the inner sanctum of some of the regions most talented artists.

The 2025 program sees 42 studios participating featuring nearly 60 artists, 5 collectives and plenty of studios new to the Open Studios experience. There are over 50 workshops, demonstrations and events to inspire you, so why not take your time, dive right in and IMMERSE YOURSELF!?

Burrinja is a cultural hub for the Dandenong Ranges.  Working to provide outcomes that contribute to the cultural vibrancy of the region, Burrinja enables the development of new, experiential and distinctive arts practice, whilst providing continued support for existing art forms in the Hills.

The centre encompasses multiple gallery spaces, artists’ studios, a world-class collection of Indigenous and oceanic art, 400 seat theatre, black box space, kids ‘stay and play’ art activities, rehearsal, making and meeting spaces, community cultural development projects, museum collection management, live music, Indigenous cultural garden and on-site cafe & bar.

Open Wednesday to Sunday, Burrinja is a fabulous place to experience great art.
