Francis is a multidisciplinary designer/maker focusing on contemporary acoustic guitar design and construction. Building his first guitars as a teenager, Francis has now been making, playing and studying guitars for over 20 years. Having formal studies in design, woodcraft, sculpture and fine art, Francis’ instruments bring a unique approach to the art of luthierie.

Focusing mostly on acoustic guitar making, the studio operates primarily with hand tools, with the machining and milling of local timbers done at a separate location. The tools utilised are wide ranging, from Francis’ great grandfather’s old splitting wedge to finely honed hand planes and carving tools and the blow-torch heated side bending iron welded from an old tow bar.
