Studio 42

Macarena Ocampo - Textile & Embroidery

Macarena is a Chilean artist living in Australia for the past 9 years. Migration has not only changed the way she perceives the world has also changed the way she perceives herself. The body that she inhabits has become the centre of her artistic expression, allowing her as an artist to explore and redefine common concepts of beauty and femininity through diversity of body shapes.

Visitors can expect to find a colourful space with unconventional art pieces made of Wool, Cotton, and various Fabrics, as well as Watercolour and Collage. Her varied working materials are kept on display to stimulate the eye and the mind, and Maxi the skateboarding studio dog is always ready to show off for appreciative visitors.

From the Artist

Strong feminist values underly much of Macarena’s work. Diversity is more important than standardised human notions of beauty. Beauty is everywhere, in all forms of life, in all shapes and all sizes. Self love and respect is integral to maintaining a positive wellbeing, and should be fostered and encouraged for all human beings.
