Studio 35

Nathan Thomas - Abstract Artist

As an abstract, figurative artist Nathan mainly works in paint combined with charcoal for drawing. His work centres on what is generally described as ‘abstract’, with inspiration drawn from deep thought, meditation and objects from everyday life combined with the freedom of expressive painting. He continues to study at Swinburne University of Technology.

A visit to Nathan’s studio is truly an experience in observing the artist at work. Interaction and discussion is encouraged as his work is of an abstract nature therefore generating interesting discussion. In essence his studio is a dynamic space to visit, with multiple works in progress to observe at a given time.

Nathan is participating in the Dandenong Ranges Open Studios as an alumni of Swinburne University Visual Arts (Wantirna Campus).

From the Artist

My primary motivation is art as the extension of the inner self with a reliance on instinct to paint freely from a position of pure emotion allowing these human traits to dictate the brush stroke, colour choice, line, and form. As an artist I am interested in exploring emotion and the human condition through the freedom of expressive painting
